
Mei Xia Li is an all round professional. A choreographer, director and artist in her own right. Mrs. Li graduated from the GuangDong Chinese History & Literature University, where she had the benefit of learning from various famous teachers. She also studied under Shanghai refined Wushu and Guqin specialist – Master Yang Xinlun, who taught her Yang style Tai Chi Quan and Tai Chi Sword and under Mr. Ma zibin, (Chairman of Sports Committee of GuangDong province) to learn various other sword techniques.
After her graduation, Mrs Li worked as a performance artist with the GuangDong television and broadcasting company. She was coach for play writes and theatrical drama artists. Before she moved to the UK, she was director of the Arts & Cultural Management Committee, in charge of performance arts, dancing, singing and theatrical drama for Lai Wan District in GuangZhou.

Since arriving Liverpool in 1983, Mrs. Li has been continuously teaching, demonstrating and performing Chinese drama, Gong Fu dance, traditional dance, qi gong, Tai Chi Quan and Tai Chi sword.. As leader in charge of the Pagoda Chinese Arts & Cultural group she developed the Chinese folk dance Troup at the Pagoda Centre and provides outreach sessions to schools promoting Chinese Culture.
In 2008, Mrs. Li was nominated by her students for the Liverpool Daily Post's ‘Women of the year awards’ when she won the sport and leisure category.
Mrs. Li teaches the theory of Tai Chi and how the movements work on our internal organs, our meridian systems and specific acupuncture points. Also how to regulate mind, body and breathing through the practice of Qi Gong.
In 2010, Mei Xia Li is introducing a pilot scheme to train new Tai Chi tutors. The course will comprise the theory and understanding of the forms of Tai Chi; practical performance; benefits of Qi Gong; teaching theory plus Health and Safety and First Aid.
